| SAFE SLEEP KITS These
innovative safe sleep kits provide parents, caregivers, and healthcare
professionals with the informational materials and tangible products
needed to create a safe sleep environment and reduce the risk of infant
death. These educational materials highlight the American Academy of
Pediatrics "Safe Sleep" recommendations. Products in the kits, such as
a room thermometer, daily reinforce the Academy's recommendations to
parents and caregivers. If you are interested in obtaining a kit,
please contact the NISA-SIDS office.
CRIBS FOR KIDS
Research has identified a safe-sleep environment as a key factor in reducing the rates of infant death. The national Cribs for Kids program was initiated to help low-income families reduce the risk of injury
and death of infants due to unsafe sleep environments. Partnering with this
program, the NISA-SIDS Cribs for Kids program reaches numerous counties
in Washington state to provide families and caregivers with a Graco Pack 'n Play Crib
and educational materials about how to create a safe sleep environment.
If you are a health agency interested in participating in Cribs for Kids, please contact the NISA-SIDS office. NAWDIM (Native American Women's Dialogue on Infant Mortality) The Native American Women's Dialogue on Infant Mortality (NAWDIM) is
a Native-led collective whose members are concerned about high rates of infant
mortality among the American Indian/Alaska Native population. The Northwest
Infant Survival Alliance-SIDS Foundation of Washington has partnered with
NAWDIM for many years to improve infant health and build awareness about infant
mortality in these communities. As of September, 2008, NAWDIM became an official
part of NISA-SIDS. For more information, see the NAWDIM Brochure.
